Covenant University Post-UTME Suplementary Screening Date 2017/2018

This is to inform the public that the Covenant University Post-UTME Aptitude Screening (Supplementary) exercise date has been announced. The screening holds on Saturday 26th August, 2017. All candidates who have applied for the screening exercise are to take note of this date. Also note that admission into Covenant University is STRICTLY by merit. We do not ask for money to influence admission. Please beware! Candidates are to log on to the portal to book for the screening. You are to appear on the day of the interview with original and photocopy of all the uploaded documents.

JAMB Deadline For 2017 Admission Process.

The Joint admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) yesterday while announcing the 2017 official cut-off marks equally disclosed the 2017 admission deadline. According to the information, admissions into public degree awarding institutions will end on January 15, 2018 while that of private institutions ends on January 31, 2018. Also, decisions on first choice candidates by universities will end on October 15, and that for second choice candidates will end on December 15. We do not know at the moment whether these timelines are for all the tertiary institutions (Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges of education) as the statement did not indicate that. We do hope that JAMB gives clarification to this soonest. However, going by what was said by the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Oloyede, institutions are to have a uniform admission deadline.

A 51-year-old landlord, Ishola Idris, and his 35-year-old tenant, Linus Okonkwo, were yesterday arraigned before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates Court for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl at his home on Number 30 Celestial road Igando in Lagos state between January this year to August. They were both arraigned before Chief Magistrate Bolanle Olufunke Osunsanmi on a two-count charge of child defilement and sexual assault. According to the prosecutor, Sergeant Raimi Idowu, the accused persons made their victim a sex tool and threatened to kill her if she told anyone. The two-count charge against the defendants reads: “ That you, Ishola Idris sometime in January 2017 at 30, Celestial Road, Igando, Lagos did unlawfully defile one 13 years old girl child by having sexual intercourse with her. That you, Linus Okonkwo sometime in March 2017 at 30 Celestial Road, Igando Lagos did unlawfully sexually assault one 13 years’ old by penetrating into her vagina with your penis.” The prosecutor told the court that the crime was made known after the father of the victim visited the home where his daughter was staying with her guardian who happens to be the brother of the 35-year-old tenant. The victim confided in her father about what the men had been doing to her. The crime, according to the police, is punishable under Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The defendants pleaded not guilty. The Chief Magistrate Osunsanmi adjourned the case to October 12th after granting the accused persons N500,000 bail with two sureties each in the like sum

Police in Germany seize over 5,000 ecstasy pills shaped like Donald Trump's head

Police in Germany have seized over 5,000 ecstasy tablets shaped like the head of US President Donald Trump. The tablets were found in a car in Lower Saxony, a state in northwest Germany. According to a Police statement, 'during the search of the vehicle police found about 5,000 ecstasy tablets with the portrait of the American president, the purchase value of the tablets amounts to approximately 11,000 euros (about $12,900); the sales value amounts to approximately 39,000 euros'.
